"Over the last 5 years GGR have worked in partnership with Jockey Club Racecourses to deliver an IT strategy with a key objective to improve the performance and reliability of our Local and Wide Area Network infrastructure, whilst reducing the total cost of ownership. GGR have been indispensable in ensuring that this objective was met."
"GGR have an in-depth knowledge of our infrastructure and business objectives, this insight partnered with the excellent cultural fit between the companies means GGR are seen by business stakeholders as an extension to our IT function. GGR add value to Jockey Club Racecourses in a way that only a true and highly trusted partner can, both within and outside the scope of our contractual relationship." David Dommett, IS Director, Jockey Club Racecourses.
Jockey Club Racecourses (JCR) maintain and manage seven large and six smaller racecourses throughout the UK, making them the largest racecourse management group in the UK. GGR have designed, configured and installed a highly available WAN infrastructure covering all racecourses, corporate offices at Sandown Park and Buckingham Gate in Central London. These racecourses hold some of the most prestigious events in the racing calendar including the ‘Grand National’, ‘Cheltenham Festival’, ‘Guineas’ and ‘Epsom Derby".
The primary network is MPLS and is backed up via Internet VPN using leased line and ADSL connectivity to maintain the network in the event of a primary circuit failure. In the event of two circuit failures at a site ISDN is used to maintain critical services and provide engineers with access for troubleshooting. The network was designed in this way due to the critical nature on race days and to guarantee to meet the agreed service level of a two hour fix on a main circuit failure. GGR designed in redundancy within the offering rather than relying on contracted repair times with Telcos.
Cisco LAN switches have been installed at all sites providing end-to-end Quality of Service to mission critical applications housed in the data centre. This offers a priority to real time and critical traffic over e-mail and web browsing from the LAN, through the WAN to the LAN at the remote site. JCR currently use IPT telephony for the IT department using Cisco CallManager.
GGR provide JCR a completely managed service taking responsibility from switch port, through routers and WAN links across the enterprise. GGR have also provided, manage and monitor wireless LAN coverage to all of the major racecourses to deliver Internet access to press personnel during race meetings. During all major events GGR provide race day support.
