The Driver

Richard Brown’s "career" in motorsport started in 2000 when he bought a Westfield. Primarily intended for picnic trips and scenic drives, it took him precisely 2 weeks to get it on the track, and only a further 2 weeks before his first sprint (Curborough in June 2000 organised by the Westfield Sports Car Club). He completed just 2 more events in 2000, but the bug had been caught.

In 2001, he competed in the Westfield Speed Series and the British Sprint Leaders Championship. Racing in 9 sprints and 2 hillclimbs, he secured 2nd in class in the British Sprint Leaders Championship, but realised that the car needed significant work to be competitive.

In early 2002, Richard Brown (with the help of friends) completely rebuilt the Westfield. This included replacing the ageing 1700cc Crossflow with a Toyota 4AGE Twin Cam 1600cc from Raw Engineering. The rebuild transformed the car, and Richard went on to 9 wins and 4 second places out of his 13 starts. He won Class A in the Westfield Speed Series, coming 2nd overall in the championship, and again came 2nd in class in the British Sprint Leaders Championship.

For 2003, the lure of circuit racing was too great and the Westfield was sold to be replaced with a Locost Race Car.  Out of 9 finishes, he had 8 top ten finishes, ending the season in 12th place out of 68 competitors.  Full details of all the races, and a points summary can be read at the "2003 Results" link on the left hand side of the screen.

In 2004, Richard will again be competing in the Locost Championship.
